Even though the original Uncle Sam poster has been used over and over for parodies and propaganda, every element seemed to find its place when the idea came to my mind. A bearded, white haired man, the terrifying expression on his face, a unique hat, the bloody red outfit and the aggressively depicted ideology.
How great would it be if we could gather ourselves during the Holidays and simply enjoy the presence of our relatives, the fact that the older are still alive and the younger are growing at a fascinating speed.
It's a popular state of mind and nothing stops us to do so. However, try to imagine a Christmas without shinny wrapped boxes under the tree. The average occidental family will spend more dollars than time together... Any parents have at least a zest of love for their kids and will keep on loving them whatever the income is, but wouldn't you feel bad if this year you couldn't afford to spoil them? Is it because you hate them or is it Santa's corner smile duplicated a billion times all over the city that made you desperately rush to Wallmart the last Sunday before xmas?
If this material act is move to show our feeling to each others, why do we wait until the very end of the year, the last week of December? As if it was the very last thing at the bottom of our to-do list. As if there was absolutely no other way to match everybody's schedule.
We all love to be spoiled and there is nothing wrong in it. The disturbing part is the pressure involved in doing so during the holidays, no matter how meaningful it is to you.
Do you love your lover only on Feb 14th? Isnt it so much more romantic to pick a random day to celebrate your love? Personally, the unexpected gives me much more of a thrill than a heart shaped box.
